Kuwait’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement Thursday that strongly condemned continued Iranian attacks against the country’s territory. The ministry described the actions as a flagrant violation of Kuwait’s sovereignty, security and territorial integrity in addition to a serious breach of international law, the UN Charter and Security Council Resolution 2817. It placed full responsibility on Iran for the attacks and all their consequences. The statement stressed that such aggression against Kuwait and fellow GCC members escalates tensions while undermining stability in the region.

The foreign ministry called on Iran to immediately cease its attacks. Kuwait will continue to take all necessary measures to protect its territory, citizens, residents and national interests, according to the statement. The ministry added that the country reserves all its legitimate rights under international law in response to the violations. Similar language has appeared in prior Kuwaiti statements addressing repeated strikes throughout the year.

Security Council Resolution 2817, cited in the latest condemnation, was adopted on March 11, 2026, according to UN records. A summary from the Security Council Report noted that Bahrain sponsored the text on behalf of the GCC states and Jordan, which passed by a vote of 13 in favor with China and Russia abstaining. The resolution determined that Iran’s strikes on Gulf countries including Kuwait breached international law and demanded their immediate halt along with full compliance by Tehran. It received an unprecedented 135 co-sponsors, the report indicated.

Iranian missile and drone strikes have targeted Kuwaiti infrastructure multiple times since early 2026 amid broader regional conflict. Kuwait’s military intercepted 13 missiles and 17 drones in one series of attacks, NBC News reported in June. A strike that damaged Kuwait International Airport caused one death and several injuries while affecting civilian facilities, Fox News reported at the time citing local officials. The incidents prompted Kuwait to expel two Iranian diplomats and reduce embassy staffing, according to contemporaneous KUNA dispatches.

The foreign ministry issued comparable condemnations after strikes on Sunday morning and Tuesday evening in July. Iran International reported that the ministry described the Sunday attacks as reflecting a persistent hostile approach that threatened regional peace and directly endangered civilians. A Facebook post by Kuwait Times quoted the ministry saying a Tuesday assault injured members of the armed forces and caused material damage while undermining de-escalation efforts. Each statement reiterated Kuwait’s right to defend itself under international law.

Coordinated diplomatic pushback has emerged across the Gulf in response to the pattern of attacks. KUNA has carried statements from Egypt, Qatar, the UAE and Yemen condemning Iranian strikes on Kuwait, Bahrain and Jordan in recent weeks. These reactions build on the unified position first formalized in the March resolution that identified deliberate targeting of airports, energy sites and civilian infrastructure across the region.
