The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement condemning and denouncing the attack on the two ADNOC-affiliated vessels as they transited the strategic waterway. The ministry described the incident as a flagrant violation of UN Security Council resolution 2817, which affirms the importance of freedom of navigation and rejects the targeting of commercial vessels or obstruction of international maritime routes. It further characterized the actions as representing acts of piracy by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps through the targeting of commercial shipping and the use of the Strait of Hormuz as a tool of economic coercion or blackmail. Such moves constitute a direct threat to the stability of the region, its peoples and global energy security, according to the ministry.

The ministry called on Iran to stop these hostile attacks in order to ensure its complete commitment to halting all hostile acts. It also urged Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz in a complete and unconditional manner to serve regional security as well as global economic and trade stability. The statement emphasized that the attack occurred with no injuries reported among those on board the vessels.

ADNOC confirmed in a separate release that no injuries were sustained during the incident and that the situation had been brought under control. The company noted that the vessels were operating in coordination with relevant authorities at the time of the attack. This response aligns with the foreign ministry’s assessment that the events did not escalate to cause casualties despite the hostile action.

US Energy Information Administration figures show that total oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz averaged 20.9 million barrels per day in the first half of 2025. Those volumes equate to about 20 percent of global petroleum liquids consumption and roughly one-quarter of total global maritime traded oil. The data underscore the waterway’s central role in international energy markets, where disruptions carry significant implications for supply chains worldwide.

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement reiterated the need for full adherence to international maritime law in the region. It positioned the condemnation within the broader context of maintaining secure passage for commercial vessels through critical chokepoints. Officials stressed that such incidents undermine not only regional stability but also the reliable flow of energy resources essential to global economies.
