Kuwait’s General Staff of the Armed Forces announced on Saturday that the nation’s air defence systems had intercepted a number of hostile missiles and drones launched from Iran. The statement clarified that explosions heard in multiple locations across the country were the direct result of these interceptions by the defence systems. It called on the public to adhere to all safety instructions issued by the competent authorities in order to maintain security during the response. The military body stressed the importance of remaining vigilant amid the ongoing situation.

According to the General Staff, an earlier update the same day had confirmed the interception of Iranian drone attacks specifically before the scope widened to include missiles. KUNA distributed the statements to ensure accurate information reached both local residents and the international community. This approach has been consistent in previous security alerts issued by the armed forces.

Kuwait’s defence ministry said it had detected 30 ballistic missiles and drones launched by Iran during an attack on June 3, according to a report by Al Jazeera. Ministry spokesman Saud Abdulaziz al-Atwan described the incident as a heinous aggression targeting civilian and vital facilities. The interceptions occurred over several residential areas, leading to some debris falling from the sky, the ministry indicated at the time.

The General Staff has issued comparable statements following other incidents throughout 2026. Kuwait Times reported on July 17 that the army had announced air defence systems were intercepting missile attacks and hostile drones. The report highlighted the instruction for the public to adhere to safety instructions issued by concerned authorities.

Regional media have documented similar interceptions by Bahrain’s military in tandem with the Kuwaiti actions, according to the Jerusalem Post. The pattern involves responses to Iranian launches following US strikes on Iranian sites earlier in the year. The latest Kuwaiti statement did not provide additional details on the scale of the attack or any resulting impacts.
