Lusail International Circuit CEO Abdulaziz Ali Al-Muhannadi announced that preparations for two major motorsport events are entering their final stages. The circuit is gearing up to host the MotoGP Qatar Airways Grand Prix of Qatar and the Formula 1 Qatar Airways Qatar Grand Prix within three weeks of each other. Al-Muhannadi stated that teams are focused on ensuring every aspect of the venue delivers an exceptional fan experience as in previous years.
A statement distributed by the Qatar News Agency on October 21 quoted Al-Muhannadi as saying November represents a special occasion for motorsport enthusiasts with two of the most prominent and anticipated championships taking place just three weeks apart. Progress continues on schedule for stands, hospitality areas, fan zones and operational facilities to accommodate teams, spectators and visitors. The circuit’s official information places its length at 5.419 kilometres with 16 turns and a spectator capacity of 52,000.
Lusail International Circuit opened in 2004 after construction by 1,000 workers at a cost of 58 million U.S. dollars, according to the venue’s published history. It has hosted MotoGP continuously since then and staged the championship’s first night race in 2008 after installing permanent floodlighting. The track joined the Formula 1 calendar in 2021 and later signed a 10-year agreement to host the Qatar Grand Prix through 2032.
An upgrade completed in 2023 produced the world’s longest motorsport pitlane building at 402.1 metres containing 50 pit boxes, a Guinness World Record. The circuit holds FIA Grade 1 and FIM Grade A licenses and has secured the FIA’s highest three-star environmental accreditation. It has also signed the United Nations Sports for Climate Action Framework.
The venue added the FIA World Endurance Championship to its portfolio in 2024 with the Qatar 1812 km event and maintains agreements to host that series through at least 2029. Volunteer registration for the upcoming MotoGP and Formula 1 races opened in early October. Recent community events at the circuit have included breast cancer awareness activities during October.
Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation figures confirm the circuit’s role in hosting more than 20 years of MotoGP events while expanding into additional championships. Preparations for the November events align with the venue’s established record of delivering international competitions. The back-to-back schedule underscores Lusail International Circuit’s position as one of only two venues worldwide to stage Formula 1, MotoGP and World Endurance Championship races.
