The Saudi Press Agency reported that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman received Adm Brad Cooper and his accompanying delegation in Jeddah where the two sides reviewed relations between Saudi Arabia and the United States. Discussions focused on the latest developments in the region with both parties emphasising the need for continued coordination on security matters. The agency said the meeting highlighted the depth of the defence partnership that has developed over decades between the kingdom and US military forces operating under Central Command. SPA noted that such engagements help align efforts to address shared challenges across the Middle East.

The encounter takes place as Yemen’s Houthi rebels have intensified actions against the kingdom after declaring a naval blockade in July. The group has launched strikes targeting Saudi vessels in the Red Sea according to regional security assessments. Subsequent drone attacks disabled the 1,200-kilometre East-West pipeline that serves as a critical oil export route bypassing the Strait of Hormuz. Saudi officials have monitored these incidents closely as they affect both energy infrastructure and broader stability.

The Saudi civil defence authority issued alerts warning of potential danger in the southern cities of Najran, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Abha on Monday before later issuing all-clear notices for the four locations. These cities have faced repeated alerts in recent days amid the increase in cross-border incidents. The Houthi military spokesman claimed the group carried out a large-scale military operation targeting infrastructure at King Khalid Airbase in Khamis Mushait. Authorities continue to assess the impact of such claims on local security conditions.

The rebels additionally asserted that they had captured Perim island in the Bab al-Mandeb strait giving them influence over a key access point to the southern Red Sea. Such developments have drawn attention to maritime security and the protection of vital commercial shipping lanes in the area. CENTCOM has maintained a focus on countering threats to freedom of navigation through joint operations with Saudi partners in recent years. The Monday meeting provided an opportunity to evaluate these ongoing collaborative measures.

Defence cooperation between Saudi Arabia and the United States extends back more than seven decades with Central Command playing a pivotal role in advancing joint capabilities. Earlier CENTCOM statements have described the Saudi armed forces as a critical security partner for addressing regional challenges through interoperable systems. Topics such as air defence enhancements and maritime security have featured prominently in prior consultations between the two sides. The latest talks built on this foundation to consider new avenues for deterrence against destabilising activities.

The discussions aligned with broader initiatives aimed at reducing regional tensions while reinforcing stability in essential energy and commercial corridors. Both parties examined mechanisms for de-escalation and for strengthening security across the Gulf and Red Sea areas. SPA indicated that the exchange would support further development of the bilateral relationship in response to the current geopolitical environment. Officials from both sides expressed commitment to sustained dialogue on these priorities.
