The announcement from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps detailed what it called a precise response to American aggression against Iranian territory earlier in the week. According to the IRGC, the operation successfully engaged key US infrastructure in the two neighboring Gulf monarchies. The force added that an unmanned aerial vehicle operated by the United States was also brought down during the mission. Iranian state television IRIB carried the full text of the Guards’ communique in its news bulletin.

Kuwait and Bahrain both maintain close military partnerships with the United States and host substantial American troop contingents. The US Navy’s Fifth Fleet has its headquarters in Bahrain, a deployment documented in Pentagon annual posture statements. Kuwait serves as a critical staging area for US forces with major air bases including Ali Al Salem, according to data compiled by the US Department of Defense.

In the wake of an earlier round of claimed strikes in June 2026, Kuwait’s military reported activating air defense systems to intercept incoming threats, Al Jazeera reported at the time. Bahrain’s authorities similarly activated warning sirens and called for public calm during the alerts, according to local official statements carried by regional outlets. US Central Command had indicated at that stage that damage from such attacks proved minimal with no American casualties recorded.

The latest IRGC declaration follows a pattern of announcements issued through Iranian state media channels including IRIB and the Fars news agency. A June 28 statement covered by Anadolu Agency put the number of targeted US sites at eight in the same two countries. The Revolutionary Guards frequently frame such actions as defensive measures in response to perceived threats from US and allied forces.

Regional tensions have escalated throughout 2026 with multiple exchanges of fire involving Iranian forces and US assets in the Gulf, Reuters reporting has shown. The presence of US bases in Kuwait and Bahrain has made them recurring elements in Iranian threat assessments issued by the IRGC. Officials in both Gulf states have repeatedly affirmed their defensive readiness in coordination with American partners.

The IRGC statement did not provide independent verification for its claims of widespread success against the 85 facilities. Previous similar assertions have drawn comments from Western and Gulf Arab officials who cited successful interceptions by integrated air defense networks. The development adds to the complex security dynamics in the Persian Gulf where naval and air assets from multiple nations operate in close proximity.
