The Pakistani Foreign Office reported that the first meeting of the Strategic Political and Defence Committee under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement took place in Istanbul on Aug. 31. Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye agreed at that session to institutionalise their cooperation to bolster collective deterrence and defence. The Foreign Office added that the alliance’s secretariat will initially be headed by a Pakistani secretary general for three years.
