Iranian state media detailed how President Masoud Pezeshkian held talks with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei at the beginning of the president’s third year in office. The two officials exchanged views on a range of national issues with particular emphasis on addressing the livelihood needs of the population. They also covered the current conditions of what the reports termed the third imposed war along with future prospects, military field developments, solutions for securing resources and managing expenditures involving the rial, foreign currency and energy as well as economic interactions with foreign partners, according to a Mehr News Agency dispatch. The Islamic Republic News Agency issued a parallel account that placed the meeting on Sunday and highlighted the detailed discussions on the country’s problems.

The confirmation follows contrasting public statements that President Pezeshkian has made about his communications with the supreme leader in recent weeks. On July 21 the president said interactions with Ayatollah Khamenei were increasing day by day. In early August he described communicating with the leader as very difficult.

Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei succeeded his father as supreme leader in March 2026 after Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in a February 28 strike during the US-Israeli war on Iran that also left the son seriously injured, multiple regional outlets have reported. The new supreme leader has maintained a low public profile since assuming the position. Officials have sought to address speculation about his health through coordinated statements from state institutions.

Basij Organisation deputy Qasem Qoraishi stated on Sunday that footage and other documentation of Ayatollah Khamenei appearing among the public, on the streets and in meetings with armed forces commanders would be released in the future. The material would once again bring disgrace upon the enemies and detractors of the Iranian people, Qoraishi said according to state media. The announcement appeared intended to counter persistent questions about the supreme leader’s visibility and condition.

Iranian state media had earlier reported that Pezeshkian held a several-hour meeting with Ayatollah Khamenei in May that constituted the first publicly disclosed encounter following the leadership transition. That session occurred as the president navigated wartime and economic pressures. The latest disclosure adds to the record of high-level consultations between the two officials.

The discussions took place against the backdrop of Iran’s ongoing efforts to stabilise its economy while managing the consequences of the conflict, as outlined in the state media summaries. Both the president and supreme leader focused on practical measures to support domestic needs and external economic partnerships. Further releases of visual material documenting Ayatollah Khamenei’s activities are anticipated from Basij leadership in the coming weeks.
