The Jordanian Armed Forces said in a statement that its air defense systems intercepted and destroyed five missiles fired from Iran toward the kingdom on July 29, 2026. The projectiles were detected through the military’s surveillance network and brought down in accordance with the rules of engagement. The statement added that the armed forces remain committed to safeguarding the kingdom’s airspace, security and sovereignty.

The announcement was carried by the Jordan News Agency, known as Petra, which distributes official government communications. This incident forms part of a series of reported Iranian launches directed at positions in Jordan that host US forces. According to US Central Command, Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps forces initiated the ballistic missile attack in what it described as an attempted surprise strike.

CENTCOM stated that the launch took place at 5:45 p.m. ET the previous day and that all missiles were successfully intercepted with US forces maintaining a high state of readiness. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed responsibility for targeting US military sites in Jordan, Iranian state media reported. The Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in eastern Jordan has repeatedly featured in such exchanges as a location hosting American troops.

Jordan has engaged similar incoming threats on multiple occasions throughout 2026 with its military reporting interceptions of both missiles and drones in prior incidents. An Al Jazeera live blog on regional developments noted that the Jordanian army shot down five projectiles at dawn during the latest exchange. The defensive actions have involved coordination between Jordanian and American assets operating in the country.

The Jordanian statement confirmed that the latest interceptions resulted in no injuries or material damage. The armed forces have developed their air defense network in recent years with support from international partners. Officials have consistently maintained that the kingdom will not permit its territory to serve as a target in external conflicts.

This event occurs against a backdrop of renewed hostilities between Iran and the United States that have included more than 30 reported drone attacks on US positions in Iraq over a 72-hour period earlier in the week. CENTCOM has documented these patterns in official releases while stressing vigilance across its area of responsibility. Regional analyses from outlets such as CNN have tracked the sequence of strikes and defensive responses since the start of the year.
