The Saudi Press Agency reported that GCC Secretary General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi strongly condemned the continued terrorist attacks on Saudi Arabia carried out by Iran-aligned militias based in Iraq. Albudaiwi described the assaults as a dangerous escalation and a flagrant violation of the kingdom’s sovereignty that threatens its security, stability and the wider region’s peace. He warned that such hostile acts undermine ongoing international efforts to reduce tensions and build security across the Middle East.

“The continuation of these terrorist assaults constitutes a direct threat to regional peace and security, undermining international efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions and consolidating security and stability,” the statement said. Albudaiwi stressed that the GCC member states stand united with Saudi Arabia. The secretary general affirmed the bloc’s complete support for every step the kingdom takes to defend its security, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The remarks represent the latest in a string of GCC condemnations of attacks linked to Iranian-backed groups. Earlier this month, the Saudi Press Agency carried a statement from Albudaiwi denouncing a Houthi missile strike on Saudi Arabia’s southern region. Similar statements have addressed drone incidents and other cross-border threats targeting Saudi infrastructure.

A Middle East Eye report detailed recent Houthi claims of drone strikes on Saudi oil facilities framed as retaliation for alleged Saudi incursions, with Saudi authorities confirming the interception of drones launched from Iraq by Iran-aligned groups. These incidents have heightened concerns over maritime security in the Gulf and potential disruptions to global energy supplies. Albudaiwi had also condemned an Iranian strike on a residential area in Al-Kharj on July 25 that caused deaths and injuries, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

The GCC, which includes Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, has repeatedly called for respect for sovereignty among regional players through official statements. Public positions from the bloc often highlight the need for adherence to international law to prevent escalation. Such positions reflect the shared security interests of the six member states amid persistent challenges.

Saudi Arabia has faced multiple such attacks in recent years, prompting a firm response from both national authorities and the GCC framework. The latest statement issued in Riyadh underscores the ongoing nature of these threats from militias operating in Iraq. Albudaiwi’s remarks highlight the bloc’s consistent emphasis on collective solidarity in addressing external violations.
