Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that it condemns in the strongest terms the missile and drone attacks by the Houthi movement on the southern Saudi cities of Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jizan and Najran. The ministry described the strikes as a serious escalation that violates Saudi sovereignty and threatens the security and safety of its people while voicing Egypt’s complete rejection of any targeting of civilians or civilian facilities. It added that Cairo stands fully alongside the kingdom in facing any threats to its security, sovereignty and territorial integrity. The statement further stressed that Saudi Arabia’s security remains inseparable from Egypt’s own as a pillar of their bilateral ties.

The Saudi-led coalition reported that the attacks wounded at least 73 people, including women and children. Coalition spokesman Major General Turki Al-Malki characterized the strikes as a dangerous escalation that violates the kingdom’s sovereignty, according to details included in the Egyptian ministry’s response. Initial updates from the coalition did not include a detailed breakdown of casualties by location or severity.

The latest strikes form part of a months-long wave of Houthi actions tied to broader regional escalation, the Egyptian foreign ministry statement noted. Egypt has issued repeated condemnations of similar Houthi strikes throughout the year, consistent with its long-standing position on threats to Gulf stability. The ministry’s latest remarks align with its earlier responses to comparable incidents.

Saudi Arabia’s foreign ministry welcomed a United Nations Security Council statement issued on August 7 that condemned Houthi missile attacks on the kingdom since July 13 along with strikes on commercial vessels. The council position reflected international concern over the pattern of escalation by the Iran-aligned Houthi movement. Egypt’s condemnation on Tuesday extends its support for such multilateral efforts to curb the threats.

The Houthi movement has maintained a campaign of cross-border attacks for years amid the ongoing conflict in Yemen, where the Saudi-led coalition has supported the recognized government since 2015. Egyptian statements have routinely framed these actions as violations of international law and risks to regional peace. The latest exchange underscores the sustained diplomatic coordination between Cairo and Riyadh on Yemen-related security matters.
