The Saudi Ministry of Health’s Adaa Center received a global recognition certificate from Sterling International on June 4, 2026, becoming the first healthcare organization in the world to earn the distinction under the Sterling Collaborative Management Assessment program. The award was presented at the 34th Sterling Leadership Conference in Florida, Arab News reported from Riyadh. The certificate acknowledges the center’s progress in institutional excellence methodologies, a culture of continuous improvement and elevated organizational performance.

According to the Arab News report citing the ministry, the Adaa Center advances the quality, efficiency and accessibility of healthcare services across the Kingdom through monitoring of facility performance, production of analytical reports and oversight of operational improvement initiatives. The center’s role supports broader reforms that have contributed to expanded access and better outcomes in the sector. Sterling International, the international partner of the Baldrige Alliance, specializes in performance improvement methodologies drawn from the Baldrige Excellence Framework.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology describes the Baldrige framework as the foundation for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, recognized globally for promoting advanced performance, innovation and sustainability. Sterling International applies this approach in healthcare to improve patient satisfaction, experience and outcomes while supporting team development. The Adaa Center’s recognition represents the first time a healthcare organization has achieved certification under the Sterling Collaborative Management Assessment program.

The Ministry of Health launched the Ada’a Health Program in 2017 to measure performance and implement improvements across health facilities in both public and private sectors, according to a ministry press release. The program started with 33 hospitals, expanded to 72 by 2018 and incorporated more than 42 key performance indicators to drive competition and best practices. It contributes directly to the goals of the Health Sector Transformation Program under Saudi Vision 2030.

Vision 2030 figures show healthcare coverage across the Kingdom at 97.5 percent, with targets set to deliver unified digital medical records to 100 percent of the population and reach 90 percent readiness to respond to health risks. A PMC study on healthcare transformation found that life expectancy at birth in Saudi Arabia rose from 64 years in 1970 to 75 years in 2015 amid ongoing reforms. The program further aims to lower average deaths from road accidents to 5 per 100,000 people.

Sterling International’s resources on healthcare indicate that its Baldrige-based framework helps organizations enhance operational resilience and long-term success while addressing demands from demographic changes. A separate PMC article on Vision 2030 projected that an additional 20,000 to 40,000 hospital beds may be required by 2035 to meet population growth and aging-related needs. The ministry has not released further details on the specific assessment scores or additional recipients from the Florida conference.
