The Embassy of Nepal in Muscat hosted the Business Interaction and Networking event that assembled a high-level Nepali trade delegation, Omani company executives, hypermarket representatives, media outlets and local Nepali businesspersons. Participants reviewed prospects for increasing Nepali exports and forging direct commercial relationships that could deliver mutual economic gains. Nepal News reported that Nepali products were exhibited during the session, prompting conversations on concrete partnership possibilities across several sectors.

Nepal News stated that Chargé d’Affaires Bishesh Kumar Sah told attendees Oman represented an important partner for scaling up trade and investment activity. Sah outlined investment openings inside Nepal together with the regulatory structures established to welcome foreign capital. The gathering formed one element of sustained efforts to deepen economic engagement that has so far remained modest in volume.

A statement on the Embassy of Nepal in Muscat website notes that bilateral trade stays negligible even though both nations possess natural resources that could support expanded cooperation in investment, tourism and human-resource development. United Nations COMTRADE data tracked by Trading Economics indicates Nepal imported goods valued at $70.97 million from Oman in 2022, the bulk of it fertilizers. Nepal’s shipments to Oman have consisted mainly of woolen carpets and a limited selection of textiles, leaving scope for broader export categories.

The Nepali delegation landed in Muscat on August 3, 2026, and promptly started a program of targeted business-to-business meetings. Nepal News reported that the group held discussions with Lulu Hypermarket and prepared for additional talks with the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry the following day. Further sessions with the Oman Investment Authority were set for August 6 ahead of the delegation’s scheduled departure on August 7.

The Embassy of Nepal in Muscat has identified several Nepali items with apparent market potential in Oman, among them tea, coffee, cardamom, honey, herbal extracts, handicrafts and traditional apparel. Officials have encouraged regular contact between the two countries’ chambers of commerce and private entrepreneurs to translate identified opportunities into lasting supply relationships. Such initiatives complement Nepal’s wider strategy of diversifying export destinations beyond its primary trading partners.

Department of Customs statistics show Nepal registered a trade deficit of Rs 1.1 trillion during the first eight months of fiscal year 2025/26, even as exports rose 29.83 percent against a 12.54 percent increase in imports. The Department of Customs data places total trade volume for that period at Rs 1.44 trillion, with imports dominating the flow. The Muscat visit therefore forms part of a deliberate push to open fresh markets that could help ease structural imbalances in Nepal’s external accounts.
