Kuwait’s Ministry of Defence announced that Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah signed the agreement with Pakistani Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif in Islamabad on Thursday. The two officials reviewed bilateral relations and prospects for deeper military collaboration while examining regional and international developments along with shared concerns. Their talks emphasised joint efforts to advance security and stability as well as the strategic partnership that has linked the countries for decades, the ministry statement indicated.
The pact creates a framework to improve operational coordination, facilitate expertise exchanges and raise the readiness and integration levels of both armed forces, according to the ministry. It aims to serve mutual interests while contributing to wider stability across the region. The signing took place in the presence of Kuwait Army Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Khaled Al-Shuraiaan and Kuwait’s Ambassador to Pakistan Nassar Al-Mutairi.
This accord follows Kuwait’s ratification in July 2026 of a broader defence cooperation agreement originally signed with Pakistan in June 2023.[[1]](https://kuwaittimes.com/article/47133/kuwait/other-news/kuwait-ratifies-wide-ranging-defense-cooperation-agreement-with-pakistan/) That earlier document, formalised through decree-law and published in the official gazette, spans military training, logistics support, intelligence sharing, scientific research and additional coordinated activities. The ratification aligned with constitutional requirements and amiri directives while underscoring political and diplomatic bonds between the two sides.
Pakistan welcomed the ratification as a milestone that would deepen institutional connections between the armed forces of both nations, Dawn reported.[[2]](https://www.dawn.com/news/2019378) The framework calls for annual executive plans, a joint military committee that convenes yearly to supervise implementation and strict safeguards to protect any classified information exchanged. Such provisions ensure the partnership advances in an orderly and secure manner.
The Kuwaiti minister and his delegation received an official military reception upon landing in Pakistan on Thursday morning, the ministry noted. The visit reflects the priority placed on bolstering defence relations amid ongoing regional considerations. Officials from both countries have consistently expressed commitment to expanding these ties through structured dialogue and practical cooperation.
