In its confirmation ADNOC stated that one of its vessels was targeted by a missile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz early on August 8. The company added that no injuries occurred among the crew and that the situation had been brought under control without further incident. Reports citing the UAE state news agency WAM noted that no details were released on the specific vessel involved its cargo or any damage sustained during the attack.

The latest strike comes a day after ADNOC issued a broader statement on Friday detailing the cumulative impact of such incidents according to Reuters. That assessment found 15 of the company’s vessels had been attacked by missiles and drones while transiting the Strait of Hormuz since the start of the regional conflict with three attacks occurring this week alone. The Friday statement reported one crew member killed and 20 others injured across those incidents while noting significant operational challenges for the energy producer.

ADNOC said in the Friday release that it was working closely with relevant authorities to implement all necessary measures protecting its personnel assets and ongoing operations. The company emphasized that freedom of navigation and safe uninterrupted passage for commercial shipping through international waterways must be respected without threat or harassment. Such statements reflect the mounting pressures on maritime energy logistics in the area as ADNOC continues meeting customer fuel requirements in a strained environment.

The Strait of Hormuz serves as a critical global energy chokepoint with US Energy Information Administration figures showing it carries roughly one fifth of the world’s seaborne oil trade. Recent years have seen daily flows averaging around 21 million barrels of petroleum liquids through the narrow passage heightening the stakes of any disruption. Multiple maritime security alerts have been issued in recent months by agencies monitoring vessel movements in and around the strait.

This August 8 incident adds to a series of reported attacks on ADNOC vessels that the company first highlighted in its Friday statement to address media coverage of the threats. Industry observers note that the pattern has unfolded against a backdrop of heightened regional tensions involving various state and non-state actors though ADNOC has stopped short of assigning responsibility in its public comments. The energy firm continues to coordinate with authorities while adjusting routes and protocols to safeguard its fleet.
