The ministry’s official spokesperson Colonel Saud Abdulaziz Al-Atwan detailed the interception in a statement carried by the Qatar News Agency. Al-Atwan said the armed forces acted after detecting the drones inside Kuwaiti airspace early Saturday. The drones targeted several vital installations including a government facility in the north of the country.

Civilian vehicles belonging to a private company on Bubiyan Island were struck as well according to the ministry’s account. Falling debris from the destroyed drones caused material damage at both sites the statement added. No casualties were reported from the incident the ministry confirmed.

Al-Atwan stated that the armed forces continue to carry out their duties with high efficiency and are taking all necessary measures to protect Kuwait’s sovereignty and safeguard its security and stability. The ministry described the event as Iranian aggression in its official release. Kuwait has maintained heightened air defense readiness in response to repeated regional incidents in recent years.

A 2024 report from the International Institute for Strategic Studies placed the number of drone-related security events across the Gulf at more than 150 since 2019. The institute’s assessment found that states including Kuwait have invested in advanced radar systems and interceptors to counter such threats. Similar airspace violations have been reported in neighboring countries during the same period.

The ministry did not disclose further technical details about the drones or the interception method in its statement. Bubiyan Island holds strategic value for Kuwait with enhanced security protocols already in place there. Officials continue to monitor the situation following the morning event.

Colonel Al-Atwan’s comments marked the first official confirmation of the incident on Saturday. The Qatar News Agency distributed the full statement from the Kuwaiti Ministry of Defence. Regional tensions have prompted increased coordination among Gulf air defense networks in the past year.
