Qatar News Agency reported Wednesday that medical sources in Gaza placed the overall death toll from the conflict at 73,250 since October 7, 2023 while the number of injured stood at 173,751. These sources indicated that hospitals across the territory had received four additional bodies and 28 wounded individuals during the previous 24 hours. The update reflects the continued accumulation of casualties even after a ceasefire took hold on October 11.

Medical sources in Gaza stated that 1,127 deaths have occurred since the ceasefire began with another 3,643 people injured in the same period. The sources added that recovery teams have retrieved 800 bodies from various sites since October 11. Their tally forms part of the regular reporting that tracks the humanitarian toll in the enclave.

According to the same medical sources a number of victims continue to lie under rubble or in streets that rescue teams cannot reach. Ambulance crews and civil defence personnel have been repeatedly blocked from accessing certain locations. This situation leaves the final counts subject to later revision once full access becomes possible.

The Gaza Health Ministry has issued the underlying data that Qatar News Agency relayed in its dispatch with the ministry serving as the primary compiler of casualty statistics throughout the conflict. A review of historical ministry releases compiled by the World Health Organization shows consistent daily updates that international agencies have cited in their own assessments of the Gaza situation. Those assessments have placed the cumulative impact among the highest recorded in recent regional conflicts.

United Nations humanitarian reports have drawn on the ministry’s figures to document displacement and medical needs inside Gaza with one such overview noting that thousands of patients require treatment that local facilities can no longer adequately supply. The World Health Organization has separately tracked how repeated disruptions to health services have compounded the effects of the rising injury numbers. Its data underscores the strain on an already limited hospital network operating under ongoing constraints.

Further updates from the medical sources are expected in the coming days as teams attempt to expand their reach into inaccessible areas. The current totals do not include any victims whose bodies have not yet been recovered or identified. International monitors continue to monitor the reporting for consistency with patterns observed since the outbreak of hostilities in late 2023.
