The Turkish Exporters Assembly reported that Germany led EU destinations with purchases worth $10.1 billion during January to June 2026. Italy followed at $6.8 billion and Spain at $5.6 billion according to the same dataset. These three markets together accounted for more than 40 percent of the bloc’s total imports from Türkiye, underscoring their enduring role in driving bilateral trade volumes.

EU-bound shipments formed a key component of the country’s broader export performance. Turkish Statistical Institute figures show overall goods exports totaled $136.1 billion in the first half, up 3.6 percent from the prior year. The institute’s preliminary release placed the period’s trade deficit at $53.1 billion after imports advanced 4.6 percent to $189.2 billion.

The first-half EU total of $55 billion represented roughly 40 percent of all Turkish exports, a share consistent with recent patterns. A World Bank review of the Turkish economy noted that the bloc absorbed 41.4 percent of shipments in 2024, highlighting structural ties in sectors such as automotive parts, machinery and textiles. Officials at the Trade Ministry have repeatedly stressed the importance of maintaining access to this market amid global supply chain adjustments.

Emirates News Agency distributed the Turkish Exporters Assembly data on July 14, framing the results as evidence of resilience in European demand. The assembly compiles figures from thousands of member firms across Türkiye’s industrial regions. Its statistics frequently align with later releases from the national statistical office, providing an early gauge of trade momentum.

Longer-term data from the Observatory of Economic Complexity indicated Türkiye’s annual exports expanded from $195 billion in 2019 to $270 billion in 2024. This multi-year upward trend has been supported by diversified product offerings and established EU customs arrangements. Continued growth in the first half of 2026 suggests the pattern persisted despite fluctuating energy prices and regional economic headwinds.

Turkish authorities have pursued additional agreements to deepen EU integration, including updates to the existing customs union framework. The Statistical Institute’s June monthly snapshot showed exports reaching $24.9 billion that month alone, part of the cumulative first-half advance. Such monthly breakdowns help track whether the EU share remains stable or shifts in response to third-country competition.
