Integrated Gas Company signed a series of new spot gas market agreements on June 28, 2026 in Muscat, the company said in a statement. The deals seek to strengthen flexibility within Oman’s national gas system, optimise resource allocation to highest-value uses and increase overall economic returns from natural gas. The ceremony occurred under the patronage of His Excellency Qais bin Mohammed Al Yousef, chairman of the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones, and drew attendance from government officials, sector leaders, producers and consumers alike.

The company’s statement noted that the agreements build directly on the Spot Gas Market’s initial launch in 2024 and form part of ongoing efforts to create a more responsive trading environment. Natural gas is positioned as a cleaner alternative to diesel across industrial applications, helping to lower emissions while meeting rising demand from power generation and manufacturing. Such arrangements also open flexible supply channels, including those supporting Nama Power operations, to sustain broader economic activity.

In the statement, Integrated Gas Company chief executive officer Abdulrahman Al Yahyaei said, “Spot Gas Market enhances flexibility in the gas system, supports optimal allocation of resources to the highest economic value and contributes to achieving the goals of Oman Vision 2040.” Al Yahyaei further noted the company’s dedication to advancing market-based solutions that benefit the entire energy sector. The executive’s comments underscored the initiative’s role in driving sustainable development across Omani industries.

National Centre for Statistics and Information figures show Oman’s natural gas production, including imports, climbed 4.6 percent to 18.8 billion cubic metres during the first four months of 2026. This uptick reflects heightened consumption from power plants and industrial facilities, placing added importance on efficient distribution mechanisms like the spot market. Earlier company announcements from November 2025 detailed gas sales agreements valued above RO 3.4 billion that are forecast to trigger more than RO 2 billion in related investments.

According to the statement, the new pacts enable short-term spot trading that delivers greater agility than traditional long-term contracts while maintaining transparency via competitive auctions. Integrated Gas Company operates the market platform and continues to widen participation among qualified stakeholders. The approach ensures gas flows to end-users capable of generating maximum economic returns from it.

The Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones has supported these market reforms, with the latest signing illustrating coordinated progress toward national energy goals. Integrated Gas Company highlighted collaborations that advance net-zero targets through cleaner fuel substitution and improved system resilience. Such developments align with Oman Vision 2040 priorities for economic diversification and industrial expansion.

Integrated Gas Company stated that it remains focused on introducing further innovations to the spot gas framework in response to evolving sector needs. The operator aims to incorporate additional producers and consumers to deepen market liquidity over time. These agreements represent the latest step in refining Oman’s gas allocation processes to match contemporary industrial requirements.
