The quadrilateral group of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkiye formed following the recent conflict involving Iran, an analysis by the International Institute for Strategic Studies found. Its first foreign ministers’ meeting took place on March 19 in Riyadh, with subsequent sessions held in Islamabad at the end of March and in Antalya in mid-April, according to foreign ministry statements from the participating countries. The grouping has coordinated on shared security concerns and backed mediation efforts between Washington and Tehran.
Gulf Times reported that the latest meeting occurred as the ministers reviewed progress on the US-Iran negotiations. The Egyptian Presidency’s statement indicated El Sisi highlighted Egypt’s commitment to partnership with Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Turkiye and other regional states in support of the memorandum’s rollout. The US-Iran memorandum of understanding, whose text was published by the Arab Center Washington DC, includes commitments to further talks on a final deal within 60 days and a US-backed plan for at least $300 billion in Iranian reconstruction, a BBC summary detailed.
