The South Korean presidential office announced that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi will make the state visit from October 7 to 9. Presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung said in a written briefing that Sisi will arrive on Wednesday and meet President Lee Jae-myung on Thursday. The two leaders plan to hold in-depth discussions on economic cooperation such as trade and investment, infrastructure and supply chains. They will also address expanding people-to-people exchanges, the regional political situation and international issues.
This will mark el-Sisi’s first visit to South Korea since 2016 according to the presidential office. The two leaders last met in November 2025 during Lee’s visit to Egypt. Kang stated that the visit is expected to serve as an important opportunity to develop South Korea-Egypt ties into a strategic partnership. The discussions will further strengthen South Korea’s cooperation with Africa and the Middle East.
Egypt has been one of South Korea’s key partners in the region since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1995. Cooperation between them has steadily expanded in the economy, culture and education. The presidential office noted that Egypt serves as an international logistics hub connecting Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
The official program on Thursday includes a welcoming ceremony, the summit, a signing ceremony for memorandums of understanding and a state luncheon, South Korean officials said. These steps build on agreements reached during the Cairo summit last year that included pursuit of a comprehensive economic partnership agreement. The Egyptian presidency added that Sisi will participate in a roundtable with heads of major Korean companies.
The trip to South Korea forms the first leg of an Asian tour that will continue to Malaysia and Indonesia, according to Egyptian presidential spokesman Mohamed el-Shennawy. The Egyptian side confirmed that the tour aims to enhance bilateral political, economic and investment relations with the three nations. Both sides have described the upcoming engagements as reciprocal following Lee’s visit to Egypt last November.
