Nottingham Forest announced the appointment of Oliver Glasner as its new head coach on Monday, according to a statement distributed by the Premier League club. The 51-year-old Austrian replaces Vitor Pereira, who was dismissed last week ahead of pre-season preparations. Glasner joins after departing Crystal Palace at the end of last season, Qatar News Agency reported in its coverage of the move. The development comes as the club seeks stability after a period of frequent managerial shifts.

BBC Sport figures show Glasner becomes the fifth permanent head coach at Nottingham Forest in less than a year. The sequence started with Nuno Espirito Santo’s dismissal early last season after a reported fallout with the hierarchy. Ange Postecoglou then lasted 39 days in the role, followed by Sean Dyche for 114 days and Pereira for 133 days, with the latter guiding the side to 16th place in the league and a Europa League semi-final.

During more than two years at Crystal Palace, Glasner oversaw the most successful period in the club’s history, ESPN reported. He secured the FA Cup in the 2024-25 season for Palace’s first major honour, beating Manchester City in the final, before claiming the Community Shield against Liverpool on penalties. The following campaign brought the UEFA Conference League title, completing a treble of sorts for the south London side.

Glasner previously led Eintracht Frankfurt to the 2021-22 UEFA Europa League crown, a triumph that ended more than four decades without a major European trophy for the German club. BBC Sport data places him as one of only three coaches to have won both the Europa League and the Conference League. Before that, he guided VfL Wolfsburg to qualification for the UEFA Champions League, according to an Instagram post from the Nottingham Forest account summarising his career path.

The Guardian reported that Glasner has set his sights on taking the Premier League side to the next level following his arrival in Nottingham. His contract at the club runs until June 2029 and carries the highest salary ever paid to a coach in Forest’s history, a Facebook post from Onside Football indicated based on details from the signing. The Austrian’s track record in developing progressive teams and delivering silverware formed a central part of the club’s announcement.

Nottingham Forest last won major honours under Brian Clough in the late 1970s and early 1980s, including back-to-back European Cups, Wikipedia entries on the club’s history recall. The current ownership has invested in the squad since promotion back to the Premier League, yet managerial turnover has marked recent campaigns. Glasner’s appointment aligns with a pattern of recruiting coaches who have succeeded in European competitions, as highlighted across reports from TNT Sports and Yahoo Sports.
