Lebanon’s National News Agency reported that Israeli forces carried out heavy artillery shelling early on August 22 in the town of Mansouri, the vicinity of Bayt al-Sayyad and the outskirts of Majdal Zoun. The agency said extensive explosions struck those same areas overnight along with the use of phosphorus shells in some locations. Similar blasts occurred in Haddatha, Beit Yahoun and Aita al-Jabal while machine-gun fire targeted nearby valleys according to the state news outlet.
Homes in Bayt al-Sayyad sustained widespread destruction with the National News Agency stating that no house in the town escaped damage from the overnight strikes. The agency documented the shelling and demolitions as part of sustained Israeli military activity in the border region. Anadolu Agency conveyed those details from the Lebanese source in its dispatch on the events.
Israeli drones flew continuously over villages and towns in the western and central sectors of southern Lebanon throughout the morning the National News Agency added. The incidents fit a pattern of repeated ceasefire violations recorded by Lebanese authorities since April. No casualties were immediately reported from the latest round of fire.
A US-mediated ceasefire agreement took effect in April 2026 after months of intense exchanges that began in March according to regional tracking by Anadolu Agency. The framework envisioned gradual Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory alongside Lebanese army deployment and the disarmament of non-state armed groups. Lebanese officials have logged dozens of subsequent breaches involving artillery, airstrikes and surveillance flights.
The Lebanese Health Ministry has placed the overall death toll from the conflict since March at more than 4,300 with over 12,000 wounded based on its compiled figures. Authorities have also reported more than one million displacements during the fighting. The latest actions come amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to stabilise the truce and enable returns to affected areas.
Earlier strikes in the preceding days targeted overlapping zones including Arnoun, Ali al-Taher hill and areas near Nabatieh al-Fawqa the National News Agency had previously detailed. Those operations involved both aerial bombardment and ground-based explosions that echoed across nearby districts. The cumulative effect has kept border communities on high alert even as mediators seek longer-term de-escalation.
