Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported that Israeli warplanes struck the home of Saja Moussa Sharara in the village of Arab Salim within southern Lebanon’s Iqlim al-Tuffah district. The agency said Sharara was killed instantly in the Thursday strike with several other people wounded in the initial attack and a second strike on the same village minutes later causing additional injuries among residents. The National News Agency identified the victim as a young woman who had celebrated her wedding only two days prior.
The Israeli military stated that its forces struck Hezbollah infrastructure including weapons storage facilities in south Lebanon. It said the strikes came in response to the group launching two explosive drones toward soldiers operating in the Ali al-Taher ridge area overnight. No casualties resulted from the drone activity on the Israeli side according to the military’s account.
Israel has increased the pace of its attacks across southern Lebanon in recent days with particular focus on the Nabatieh area that encompasses the strategic Ali al-Taher ridge. The military has previously stated that Hezbollah fighters maintain underground terror infrastructure in the zone. Lebanese authorities have put the overall death toll from the conflict at more than 4,300 since Hezbollah opened attacks on Israel on March 2 in support of Iran triggering extensive Israeli airstrikes and ground operations. The violence has continued intermittently even after diplomatic steps that included a US-Iran memorandum of understanding. Earlier this month on August 15 Lebanese state media reported that Israeli strikes killed 11 people including several children in the south.
