The Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that Israeli forces detained 20 Palestinians across several areas of the West Bank on October 18 as troops conducted raids and searched homes in towns including Qabatiya south of Jenin. Local sources told WAFA that the operations involved multiple governorates with forces detaining former prisoners in some cases and leaving one Palestinian moderately injured during an incursion into a residence. The Palestinian Prisoners Club confirmed the total of 20 detentions noting that the individuals were taken for interrogation after the searches.
WAFA added that in Tulkarm nine Palestinians were among those arrested during early morning raids that targeted the Nur Shams refugee camp and surrounding suburbs with those identified including Iyad Hosni Nasser and Issam Fuqaha. Three more detentions occurred in Bethlehem after similar home raids according to a security source who spoke to WAFA while forces in Jenin city detained three others following property searches. The agency reported that schools in Qabatiya delayed their start time until 9 a.m. because of the military activity in the town.
The Palestinian Prisoners Society has documented more than 23,000 detentions in the West Bank and East Jerusalem since October 2023 a figure that includes both those still held and individuals later released. That society report which WAFA carried in April 2026 noted that the total encompassed around 700 cases involving women and 1,800 involving children along with more than 240 journalists. One journalist from Nablus died while in Israeli custody according to the same tally.
Israeli authorities have described such operations as necessary to counter security threats and have reported conducting tens of thousands of detentions and field interrogations in the West Bank over the same period. The military has not issued a specific statement on the October 18 raids but routinely states that those detained are suspected of involvement in attacks or related activities. Rights monitors have separately tracked a rise in operations during the olive harvest season when tensions often increase in rural areas.
WAFA reported additional incidents tied to the broader climate of unrest with settler attacks on Palestinian farmers and property continuing in regions near Ramallah and Hebron during the same week. Local officials told the agency that such events have disrupted agricultural work and damaged infrastructure in multiple villages. The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said its teams had responded to related injuries in some locations though exact links to the raids were not specified.
The Palestinian Prisoners Society has highlighted accompanying violations during many detention campaigns including damage to homes seizure of property and reports of intimidation. Its data which draws from field reports and released detainees places the current prison population at more than 9,500 with conditions described as involving severe restrictions. International organisations have called for greater oversight of detention practices amid the sustained pace of operations.
