Beyon announced in a statement that Phase 5 of its Beyon Solar Park programme will allow a third data centre to operate fully on renewable energy once completed in the coming months. The project, unveiled at Gateway Gulf 2026 in the presence of Beyon Group Chairman Shaikh Abdulla bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, involves an investment of BD544,500, or about $1.44 million, and was developed in partnership with Almoayyed Solar. It covers 14,000 square metres and incorporates 2,292 solar panels with a total capacity of 1.5 megawatts peak. The company said the installation will generate approximately 2.5 gigawatt-hours of clean electricity annually while reducing carbon emissions by more than 1,585 tonnes a year.

Completion of the phase will bring the number of Beyon data centres powered entirely by renewables to three, according to the group’s announcement. The development forms part of a sustained effort to expand digital infrastructure while progressively lowering the environmental footprint of operations amid growing demand for data, cloud and digital services. Beyon has positioned the solar park programme as a core element of its strategy to build resilient, high-performance facilities that align with national sustainability objectives.

The company noted that earlier phases have already extended renewable power across multiple assets. Phase 3, which was announced at Gateway Gulf 2025, enabled the Tier III-certified data centre in Hamala to run entirely on solar energy. Phase 4, completed this year, supplied renewable power to Total CX’s customer contact centre, which the group described as Bahrain’s first green contact centre. These successive steps have broadened the programme beyond data centres to other parts of the operational portfolio.

“Data centres are increasingly fundamental to the digital economy, and we believe their continued expansion should go hand in hand with a more sustainable approach to powering critical infrastructure,” Beyon Group CEO Andrew Kvaalseth said in the statement. “Reaching three green data centres represents an important milestone in that journey and reflects the scale and consistency of our investment in renewable energy.” Kvaalseth added that sustainability and resilience will remain integral considerations for future infrastructure spending as the company expands its digital footprint.

A MEED report from last month placed investment in more than 174 active data centre projects across the GCC above $93 billion, fuelled by artificial intelligence, cloud computing and government digital transformation initiatives. Bahrain’s Electricity and Water Authority figures show the kingdom has expanded its grid-connected renewable capacity to 141 megawatts through 372 projects that generate more than 230 gigawatt-hours annually and avoid roughly 115,000 tonnes of carbon emissions each year. The authority is working toward a target of 20 percent renewable and clean energy in the national mix by 2035 while pursuing net-zero emissions by 2060.

Almoayyed International Group Chairman Mohammed Almoayyed said the successive phases illustrate a long-term commitment to clean energy through private-sector collaboration. The partnership has delivered progressively larger solar installations that enhance both environmental performance and energy security for Beyon’s facilities. Beyon stated that such investments help address the rising electricity needs of digital infrastructure while supporting Bahrain’s broader sustainability agenda.
