The Emirates News Agency reported that ADX Group held the ceremony on the Abu Dhabi to Fujairah route, converting the passenger train into a temporary trading hall for the occasion. ADX Chairman Ghannam AlMazrouei, Group CEO Abdulla Salem AlNuaimi and Etihad Rail CEO Shadi Malak participated in the event. The initiative marked the first time a stock exchange opening bell was rung on a moving train anywhere in the world. Gulf News reported that Etihad Rail launched its Abu Dhabi-Fujairah passenger services on June 30, 2026, cutting journey times to one hour and 45 minutes.

According to the Emirates News Agency, the bell ringing coincided with the introduction of six new single-stock futures on ADX, increasing the total number of futures products to 17 and contracts to 50. The exchange has progressively expanded its derivatives offerings to meet growing investor demand for varied trading instruments. This latest addition builds on prior listings and aims to broaden market participation. The event also featured a chess activity involving the Al Waseer piece, the agency added.

ADX Group said in the announcement that the partnership with Etihad Rail demonstrates the convergence of capital markets and advanced transportation networks across the UAE. The rail service, which entered its introductory operational phase last month, provided the setting for traders and officials to engage during the journey. Officials highlighted how the mobile format underscored innovation in both sectors. Public data from ADX shows steady growth in trading volumes over recent quarters.

Etihad Rail has positioned its passenger network as a key element of national infrastructure development, with further station openings scheduled through 2027 according to statements from the operator. The Abu Dhabi-Fujairah line represents the initial segment, with extensions to Dubai, Al Dhaid and Al Dhafra regions planned in subsequent phases. Integration of such events on the rail system reflects broader efforts to promote cross-sector collaboration. The Emirates News Agency noted that the ceremony drew attention to these ongoing expansions.

The launch of the additional futures contracts forms part of ADX’s strategy to enhance its role as a regional financial hub, the exchange indicated. Single-stock futures allow for more targeted investment strategies compared with broader index products. Market observers have tracked the growth in listed derivatives on the exchange since its earlier reforms. No immediate trading figures from the new contracts were released in the announcement.
