Policybazaar.ae reported that a driver’s history plays a central role in determining car insurance premiums in Dubai. Insurers review past traffic violations to evaluate the risk level associated with each applicant. A record marked by infractions generally translates into higher premiums as the driver is perceived as more likely to file claims.
While traffic fines do not directly alter premium calculations, their presence on a driving record signals poor skills or unhealthy habits, according to the platform. Examples include minor accidents and wrong parking for the former, and driving under the influence or skipping traffic lights for the latter. Such patterns can lead to black points, with accumulation of 24 points resulting in licence suspension that prevents obtaining insurance, the platform added.
The platform noted that these consequences can affect a motorist for several years after the offence. In its analysis published Tuesday, it recommended several steps to improve a driving record and reduce future costs. Defensive driving courses were highlighted as an effective way to build better habits and avoid further violations.
Dubai Police and the Roads and Transport Authority periodically offer discounts and waivers on outstanding fines, providing opportunities to clear records more affordably, Policybazaar.ae added. Maintaining a clean record over time also qualifies drivers for safe driver discounts that many insurers apply for each accident-free year.
A report by The National indicated that new regulations allowed UAE motorists with clean records to access cheaper car insurance premiums. The publication quoted an expert saying rates are increased by 10-15 per cent in case of claims by the motorists. The official UAE government platform details road safety laws that include traffic fine enforcement and black point systems.
According to u.ae, insurance companies must provide full civil liability coverage and may not include conditions that reduce compensation for death, injury or property damage caused by a vehicle. Online resources covering UAE regulations note that unpaid traffic fines can block insurance renewal and vehicle registration processes in Dubai. Drivers are advised to check their records regularly through official channels to avoid complications.
