GCC ministers of transport and communications discussed implementation of directives from their leaders’ 19th consultative meeting during an extraordinary videoconference on June 17 2026 the bloc’s secretary general said. His Excellency Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi noted that the session chaired by Bahrain’s Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications Dr Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa reviewed progress on joint Gulf projects aimed at enhancing regional connectivity. The ministers commended initiatives by the GCC General Secretariat to begin carrying out the supreme orders issued in Jeddah on April 28.
HE Albudaiwi pointed out that participants examined steps taken by the Higher Committee formed under the General Secretariat to follow up on the leaders’ decisions. The committee outlined a future work plan in coordination with member states to develop recommendations for strengthening supply chain corridors across the GCC. These efforts seek to limit any possible effects on trade flows and logistics systems linking the six countries according to the secretary general’s account of the meeting.
The April consultative meeting in Jeddah addressed regional challenges including supply chain disruptions from earlier incidents. A GCC Secretariat statement from that gathering on April 28 2026 indicated that leaders praised member states for rapidly rehabilitating affected energy facilities and boosting cooperation in logistics and aviation. The directives specifically called for expediting the GCC railway project alongside electricity and water interconnection initiatives as well as oil and gas pipeline studies.
Recent industry updates show the GCC Railway network has advanced to more than 50 percent completion in several segments. An assessment published by ALG Global projected that the project backed by an estimated 240 billion dollar investment would transport over 95 million tons of freight annually once fully operational by the end of 2030. This infrastructure is expected to connect ports industrial zones and major cities thereby supporting intra-GCC trade that has expanded consistently in recent years.
Ministers at the June session underscored the importance of expanded collaboration on transport according to HE Albudaiwi. “Their Excellencies underscored the vital significance of boosting and intensifying joint Gulf efforts as well as adopting future projects and additional proactive measures to maintain the smooth flow of land sea and air transport. This is essential to ensure the sustainability of freight transit and the uninterrupted efficient operation of vital sectors” he reported.
HE Albudaiwi expressed appreciation for the ministers’ ongoing support to the General Secretariat’s Higher Committee in executing its assigned tasks. The videoconference format allowed full participation from all GCC transport authorities amid continued regional coordination. Such meetings build on prior work to align national transport strategies with collective objectives established by the leaders.
