The Ministry of Investment brought together international tech entrepreneurs local ecosystem players and academic experts for the ScaleX workshop that focused on easing market entry for promising ventures the Saudi Press Agency reported. Sessions addressed regulatory navigation cultural adaptation and strategies for forging alliances with Saudi entities across priority sectors including artificial intelligence biotechnology and renewable energy. Officials highlighted how the event forms part of sustained efforts to strengthen the national innovation framework and draw high potential companies to contribute to economic diversification.

A KAUST program overview shows that ScaleX operates as a selective soft landing platform open exclusively to startups meeting strict criteria such as raising Series B funding or its equivalent operating for at least two years and maintaining readiness for commercial rollout without an existing Saudi office. In a recent intake the initiative accepted just 10 companies from seven countries out of more than 550 global applications reflecting an admission rate below two percent according to KAUST data. These participants receive tailored assistance ranging from laboratory access and faculty collaboration to incorporation support and pathways toward national incentives.

Ministry representatives described the workshop as a practical bridge linking foreign innovators to Saudi Arabia’s expanding venture ecosystem the Saudi Press Agency stated. The collaboration with KAUST and partners including Saudi Awwal Bank has already enabled selected firms to advance research and development projects aligned with national priorities. Abdulrahman Basaqr KAUST ScaleX Program Manager said MASSPHOTON’s strengths in UV disinfection and advanced photonic technologies align closely with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals in health technology and sustainable development.

ScaleX has facilitated concrete outcomes for past cohorts with participating startups in smart mobility environmental monitoring and food security securing initial footholds and forming ties with major domestic organizations according to program testimonials compiled by KAUST. One venture specializing in urban air mobility established its first regional presence following program support while another in smart cities advanced projects linked to major national developments. Such results underscore the workshop’s emphasis on converting strategic guidance into measurable operational progress for entrepreneurial participants.

The Saudi Venture Capital Company has documented robust expansion in the Kingdom’s funding environment with local deal volumes leading the broader region in recent years. Workshop organizers integrated sessions on investor engagement to capitalize on this momentum by introducing founders directly to active capital providers and corporate partners. Continued iterations of the ScaleX initiative are expected to deepen these connections and reinforce Saudi Arabia’s position as an attractive destination for technology driven entrepreneurship.
