Juventus announced the season-long loan acquisition of Nick Woltemade from Newcastle United on September 1 with the deal understood to include a fee of around 3.5 million pounds and no option to buy according to BBC Sport. The 24-year-old German international will link up with Luciano Spalletti’s squad which sits fourth in Serie A after winning its first two matches of the campaign. A statement distributed by Qatar News Agency noted that the Italian club views the forward as a significant addition citing his steady development through several clubs.

Woltemade came through the youth ranks at Werder Bremen where he made his senior debut in 2020 before spending time on loan at Elversberg and later moving to Stuttgart in 2024 a Juventus announcement on its website detailed. During a standout season with Stuttgart he scored 18 goals in 36 appearances and helped the club secure the German Cup which prompted his record transfer to Newcastle last summer Reuters reported. The move to England saw him feature regularly at first with the forward registering 11 goals and six assists across 53 appearances in all competitions according to statistics cited by the Newcastle United website.

Limited starts under new Newcastle manager Matthias Jaissle this term prompted the loan according to BBC Sport which noted Woltemade had begun only one of the club’s first three Premier League games while coming off the bench to provide an assist in a victory at Tottenham Hotspur. The Germany international who has earned 12 caps and scored four goals for his country had fallen behind other options in the attacking pecking order a development that aligned with Newcastle’s acquisition of Matias Fernandez-Pardo from Lille. Juventus had also held discussions over Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee but ultimately pursued Woltemade as a more suitable and cost-effective target BBC Sport added.

The arrival coincides with Jonathan David’s imminent loan move to Atletico Madrid leaving Spalletti in need of forward depth The Athletic reported while Juventus simultaneously completed the season-long loan of Tottenham midfielder Pape Matar Sarr on the same deadline day. Woltemade is expected to travel to Turin for a medical before finalising his temporary switch which runs until June 2027. Newcastle United said in a statement that everybody at the club wishes Nick the very best of luck for the season ahead.

Woltemade’s breakout campaign at Stuttgart followed earlier loans and development spells that included a two-season stint at IF Elfsborg in Sweden the original Qatar News Agency dispatch recalled. His adaptation to Premier League demands showed promise early on before a dip in form and positional experiments under previous coaching staff contributed to reduced minutes this season according to coverage in The Athletic. The loan to Serie A offers the 24-year-old an opportunity to regain consistency in a league that has historically suited his style of play.

Newcastle’s decision to facilitate the temporary exit comes after the club finalised its own incoming business with the Fernandez-Pardo signing which The Athletic indicated helped clear the path for Woltemade’s departure. Juventus has moved quickly on deadline day to address its attacking needs without committing to long-term obligations that featured in rival proposals. Woltemade will now aim to make an immediate impact in Turin where he is set to wear the famous black and white stripes for the remainder of the 2026-27 season.
