The Asian Table Tennis Union has given the green light to Thailand’s proposal for the 2027 edition of its flagship senior competition. According to Qatar News Agency, the approval was granted following a review of the bid submitted by the Table Tennis Association of Thailand. Bangkok will thus organize the continental showpiece for the first time since 2010.
The Thai capital demonstrated its hosting credentials by staging the 30th Asian Youth Table Tennis Championships between June 28 and July 4, 2026 at Bangkokthonburi Hall. ATTU’s official account detailed how the event featured participation from 20 member associations and included an opening ceremony with Thai cultural performances. The youth championships were officially opened by ATTU President Mr. Khalil Al-Mohannadi.
The ATTU itself traces its roots to May 7, 1972 when it was formed with 16 member associations. The body gained formal recognition from the International Table Tennis Federation in 1975 and has since expanded to encompass 44 member associations. This growth underscores the increasing prominence of table tennis across Asia.
More recent team championships have taken place in other parts of the continent, with the 28th edition hosted by Bhubaneswar, India in 2025. The 29th ITTF-ATTU Asian Table Tennis Championships concluded in Tashkent, Uzbekistan earlier this month. These tournaments help determine continental representatives for global competitions.
Hosting the 2027 championships will see Bangkok manage a full program of individual and team events for both genders. The event is a major fixture in the ATTU calendar that draws top players from across the region. Thai organizers will now work closely with the union to finalize all arrangements for the competition.
