The Saudi Energy Ministry said an administrative building belonging to state oil giant Saudi Aramco in Riyadh was targeted in an attempted attack on Sunday. Falling shrapnel caused minor damage to the structure while no injuries or fatalities occurred, according to the ministry statement shared on its official X account. Relevant authorities promptly responded to the incident and took the necessary measures, the ministry added.

A Reuters correspondent reported that glass was blown out on several floors in the middle section of the Aramco Tower at Riyadh’s King Abdullah Financial District. The account aligns with the ministry’s description of limited material impact from debris after a projectile struck the area. People briefed on the matter told Reuters that a tower in the financial district sustained damage from the event.

This incident forms part of a pattern of attacks claimed by Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthis on Saudi infrastructure. The group has targeted Aramco sites and Riyadh airport in recent weeks, according to a report by The National. Saudi-led coalition forces intercepted missiles launched toward Riyadh and other regions on Sunday, the Saudi Press Agency stated.

In mid-October, Aramco’s headquarters in Dhahran suffered extensive damage from an attack that sparked a fire spreading across multiple floors, three sources with direct knowledge told Reuters. The energy ministry described that strike as causing a limited fire with no casualties while some employees shifted to remote work. Operations at the complex continued normally despite the damage.

The Ministry of Energy statement on the Riyadh event stressed that the impact remained confined to minor structural effects on the building. Saudi Arabia has faced continuous Houthi attacks on civilian and energy infrastructure since early October, ARN News Centre reported. Officials have maintained that such incidents prompt swift security responses across affected sites.

Civil defence authorities have documented previous cases where intercepted Houthi missiles produced debris that damaged homes and caused injuries in residential zones of the capital. The latest event in the financial district appears to have been contained without broader disruption. Further details on the investigation remain pending from security officials.
