Qatar News Agency reported that Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan presented the Minister of Foreign Affairs Excellence Award to Amna bint Abdul Wahid Al Hammadi, acting chargé d’affaires at Qatar’s embassy in the UAE. The honour recognised the embassy’s contributions during the sixth edition of the award at an event held at the ministry’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan handed the award directly to Al Hammadi in front of assembled officials from the ministry.
Emirates News Agency reported that the presentation occurred as part of a broader ceremony where Sheikh Abdullah witnessed the launch of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Strategy for 2027-2029. The minister congratulated recipients across categories and noted that such recognition encourages continued excellence in support of the ministry’s ambitions over the coming three years. The event also honoured 18 ministry departments and several diplomatic missions for performance in political affairs, service delivery and support services.
Relations between the UAE and Qatar have advanced since both countries restored diplomatic representation in June 2023 following the 2021 Al-Ula agreement, according to statements issued at the time by their foreign ministries. The reopening of the Qatari embassy in Abu Dhabi, its consulate in Dubai and the UAE embassy in Doha marked a key step toward normalised ties within the Gulf Cooperation Council. Subsequent high-level visits and discussions have focused on expanding cooperation in multiple fields.
Qatar’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry data shows that bilateral trade between the two countries reached $8.4 billion in 2025, a 10 percent increase from the prior year. Qatari exports to the UAE exceeded $6.7 billion during that period while more than 624 Emirati companies operate in the Qatari market. Invest Qatar figures place the UAE as the largest foreign investor in the country last year with $814 million directed across 73 projects, over half of which were greenfield developments.
The award forms part of an annual programme launched in 2014 to promote institutional excellence and innovation within the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its international partners, Emirates News Agency reported. Previous editions have recognised both ministry departments and accredited foreign missions for outstanding service. Recipients from this year’s ceremony will advance to compete in the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Government Excellence Award.
Al Hammadi accepted the honour on behalf of the entire Qatari embassy staff in the UAE. The recognition arrives amid continued high-level contacts between officials of both countries on regional issues including security and economic integration. UAE and Qatari leaders have emphasised the value of strengthened bilateral partnership for broader Gulf stability and prosperity.
