The Abu Dhabi Media Office announced that the United Arab Emirates intends to invest an additional €15 billion in Greece under an expanded joint investment initiative with the Hellenic Republic. This development was revealed on the sidelines of the official visit by Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan who attended the UAE-Greece Strategic Forum alongside Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. The plan supplements an existing framework launched in May 2022 with €4 billion that has already enabled significant transactions in energy and healthcare according to the media office.
Emirates News Agency reported that the fresh capital is slated for deployment over the next five to eight years across energy, hospitality, artificial intelligence, technology, industry and infrastructure. UAE Minister of Foreign Trade Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi described the move as strengthening bilateral economic ties while noting Greece’s maritime capabilities that establish it as a vital logistics hub and gateway to Eastern Europe. Bilateral trade between the UAE and Greece reached $300 million in the first half of 2026 representing a 13 percent increase from the year-earlier period the minister added.
At the forum in Athens 18 memoranda of understanding agreements and commercial partnerships totaling €12.75 billion were concluded the Abu Dhabi Media Office said. These cover direct investments in real estate, healthcare, food security, renewable energy and artificial intelligence infrastructure with participation from government entities and private companies on both sides. Sheikh Khaled held separate talks with Mitsotakis to discuss broadened cooperation in energy, infrastructure, healthcare and advanced technology the office stated.
A Reuters dispatch noted that the expanded commitment follows the full acquisition of Greek renewable energy firm Terna Energy by UAE company Masdar which completed the purchase last year after an initial 70 percent stake bought in 2024 at an enterprise value of €3.2 billion. The latest investment does not detail specific allocations but aims to deepen the partnership that has matured since the 2022 launch. Negotiations on a UAE-European Union free trade agreement have also registered more positive momentum in recent rounds according to the foreign trade minister.
WAM quoted Al Zeyoudi as highlighting opportunities to draw on Greek expertise in hospitality, logistics, maritime transport, fisheries, agriculture and energy technology with scope to transfer such knowledge to Mediterranean markets. The minister pointed to the completion of several UAE-backed projects in Greece particularly in energy and cross-border interconnections while expressing optimism about further prospects. He observed that the Greek economy continues its transition from debt-related challenges toward sustained growth.
The Abu Dhabi Media Office stated that the announcement reflects the UAE’s confidence in Greece’s economic and investment strengths along with its strategic location for connecting European markets to regional and international ones. This direction supports long-term economic and strategic partnership that advances mutual priorities in innovation, sustainable development and competitiveness. Officials from both countries view the framework as opening new avenues for collaboration between investment institutions and private firms.
