Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on October 11, 2026 strongly condemning the Houthi militia’s attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. The ministry described the strike, which caused deaths and injuries among civilians including travellers and airport staff of multiple nationalities, as a flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law. According to the statement, such repeated hostile acts targeting civilian objects and vital facilities represent a dangerous escalation that threatens the safety of civilians and air navigation. The ministry stressed the importance of holding those responsible accountable for the incident that also forced a temporary suspension of airport operations.

Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation reported that the October 10 attack killed 12 people, including four Saudi citizens, two Bangladeshis and one national each from the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine and Sudan. The authority’s figures show that 309 others were wounded in the strike on the passenger terminal, with some of the injured listed in critical condition and receiving treatment at multiple hospitals. A Saudi-led coalition attributed the assault to Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis and labelled it a war crime under international humanitarian law.[[1]](https://www.cnn.com/2026/10/10/middleeast/riyadh-airport-saudi-houthis-intl)

The strike marked the third Houthi attack on the airport that week and stands as the deadliest in the kingdom in more than a decade, according to a Reuters dispatch. Earlier assaults earlier in the week had killed four people and heavily damaged a commercial aircraft parked on the tarmac, the news agency reported. Saudi Arabia’s Coalition Joint Forces Command confirmed the group’s responsibility for the latest incident, which disrupted flights across the facility serving a city of roughly 8 million people. Operations at the airport remained suspended pending damage assessments and safety inspections.[[2]](https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/loud-blast-heard-riyadh-airport-airlines-cancel-more-flights-2026-10-10/)

Kuwait’s statement reiterated the country’s absolute solidarity with Saudi Arabia and its support for all measures the kingdom takes to safeguard its security, stability and the safety of citizens and residents. The ministry underscored that Saudi Arabia’s security forms an integral part of Kuwait’s own security as well as that of other Gulf Cooperation Council member states. In the document, Kuwait expressed sincere condolences to the Saudi leadership, government and people along with the governments and families of the victims from other nationalities. The ministry wished a speedy recovery to all those injured in the attack.

The incident occurs amid a recent escalation in the Yemen conflict, where fighting between Saudi-backed government forces and the Houthis has intensified following the unraveling of a ceasefire, a pattern documented across multiple regional reports. Houthi actions have included strikes on civilian infrastructure and warnings to airlines against using Saudi airspace, which the group declared a military zone. Kuwait called on the international community in its statement to shoulder its responsibilities by adopting a firm stance against such repeated attacks on civilian and aviation targets to prevent future occurrences and ensure perpetrators face punishment.[[3]](https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cw33x4y8k82no)
