Discussions during the meeting focused on opportunities to increase investment flows between the UAE and Bangladesh in areas including energy, infrastructure and trade, according to the Daily Sun. Ambassador Abdulla Ali AlHmoudi outlined potential projects that could benefit from UAE capital and expertise. The FICCI executive director presented an overview of Bangladesh’s investment climate and recent policy adjustments aimed at attracting foreign partners.

Bangladesh Bank data indicates that remittances from the roughly 1.2 million Bangladeshi workers in the UAE have consistently supported the country’s foreign exchange reserves over the past decade. The Foreign Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry has advocated for streamlined procedures to accelerate such inflows from Gulf partners. A series of high-level visits in recent months has built on this foundation to deepen economic linkages.

The talks align with earlier engagements between the UAE envoy and Bangladesh government officials on energy sector collaboration, the Daily Sun reported in July. Those discussions emphasized joint ventures in power generation and mineral resources as priority areas. Both sides have expressed interest in expanding beyond energy into logistics and advanced manufacturing.

According to the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority, cumulative foreign direct investment from the UAE has targeted several strategic sectors, contributing to industrial expansion. The authority’s latest filings show sustained interest from Emirati firms despite global economic headwinds. FICCI has worked to connect its members with such opportunities through targeted forums and policy recommendations.

The UAE embassy in Dhaka has highlighted the longstanding partnership that includes support for Bangladeshi businesses seeking to access Gulf markets, a statement from the mission noted. Cooperation extends to capacity building and technical exchanges in addition to capital investment. Follow-up meetings are planned to convert the latest discussions into concrete proposals within the next quarter.
