Qatar News Agency reported that Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani telephoned his Pakistani counterpart Mohammad Ishaq Dar to exchange perspectives on the current regional situation. The two officials emphasised collaborative regional and international steps toward de-escalation while preserving security and stability throughout the area. Their discussion also touched on several matters of mutual interest that affect both nations and the wider Gulf region.

The ministers highlighted the strategic importance of unrestricted navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital passage for global energy shipments, in the Qatar News Agency account from Manama. They reaffirmed their commitment to joint efforts that support peaceful resolution of outstanding issues. The conversation underscored the value both countries place on sustained dialogue amid fluctuating regional conditions.

A Council on Foreign Relations report detailed how the strait experienced a 70 percent drop in tanker traffic following its closure in February 2026 during periods of heightened conflict. The assessment placed the disruptions within a cycle of strikes and retaliatory actions that disrupted energy flows and elevated global prices before gradual normalisation. Such events have prompted renewed diplomatic outreach among Gulf states and their partners.

The Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs has noted that diplomatic relations between Bahrain and Pakistan were established in 1971 and have since expanded across political, economic and defence domains. Bilateral trade volumes have ranged from $500 million to approximately $1 billion in recent years, encompassing Pakistani exports of textiles, rice and other commodities alongside Bahraini shipments of refined products. Thousands of Pakistani nationals form a significant part of Bahrain’s expatriate workforce, contributing to the kingdom’s development projects.

Earlier meetings between the two foreign ministers, including encounters on the margins of multilateral gatherings, have consistently prioritised regional stability and counterterrorism cooperation. The Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs has described these interactions as opportunities to align positions on international forums addressing Middle East challenges. Both sides have repeatedly voiced support for diplomatic pathways that reduce tensions across the broader West Asian landscape.

Bahrain’s longstanding partnership with Pakistan extends to military training programmes and joint exercises that enhance interoperability between their forces. The Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs has pointed to these activities as elements of a deeper strategic relationship that benefits Gulf security architecture. Continued high-level contacts, such as the latest telephone exchange, illustrate the priority both capitals assign to coordinated responses in an evolving regional environment.
