Qatar News Agency reported that the Confederation of African Football has finalised November 8 as the date for the 2026 African Super Cup, which will be staged at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria. Mamelodi Sundowns enter as the reigning CAF Champions League winners while USM Alger qualified by lifting the CAF Confederation Cup title. The fixture pits the two continental champions against each other in a single high-stakes match that carries significant prestige across African club football.

According to CAF records, Sundowns last claimed the Super Cup in 2017 when they defeated TP Mazembe 1-0 at the same Pretoria venue. USM Alger secured their sole title in 2023 by beating Al Ahly 1-0 in a tightly contested encounter. Both clubs therefore bring recent experience of success in the competition to this latest edition.

CAF assessments show that Egypt’s Al Ahly lead the all-time standings with eight Super Cup victories since the tournament began in 1993. Venues have shifted among several African and Middle Eastern cities in recent years, including multiple stops in Qatar and Morocco as the body sought to expand the event’s international profile. The selection of Pretoria continues a pattern of choosing established stadiums with proven capacity to deliver major finals.

Loftus Versfeld Stadium previously welcomed the 2017 final, which ended in triumph for the home side. The venue offers modern facilities and a track record of hosting passionate crowds for continental fixtures. South African football authorities have welcomed the decision, which places one of the country’s flagship clubs at the centre of a showpiece occasion.

In the same announcement CAF detailed the preliminary round calendar for its 2026-27 club competition season. First legs will be played from September 4 to 6 with return fixtures scheduled between September 11 and 13. These early ties will shape the qualifying path for teams aiming to reach the group stages of both the Champions League and Confederation Cup.

CAF also confirmed that the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations will run from June 19 to July 17 across Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. The multi-country hosting model follows precedents set in earlier editions to share organisational responsibilities. Such scheduling gives national federations a defined window to prepare squads while navigating an increasingly demanding global football calendar.
