Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stressed the need to de-escalate regional tensions through dialogue while pursuing diplomatic resolutions to active conflicts, according to Egypt’s Foreign Ministry. The two diplomats, speaking by phone on March 25, 2026, warned that further military escalation could endanger both regional and global peace and security. They highlighted the importance of coordinated regional and international action to contain the crisis and engage all relevant parties in sustained talks aimed at ending the violence.

Abdelatty emphasized that continued escalation threatened to spiral into a wider confrontation with severe consequences, the ministry reported. He pointed to significant economic impacts, including disruptions to global supply chains, maritime navigation, food and oil prices, as well as rising inflation. The minister called for joint international steps to address these effects before they worsened.

Both sides agreed to maintain close coordination and expand diplomatic outreach in order to prevent further deterioration of the situation, according to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry readout. The call formed part of regular high-level exchanges between Cairo and Beijing on international issues. Abdelatty expressed appreciation for the comprehensive strategic partnership between Egypt and China, noting substantial progress across multiple sectors in recent years.

Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics figures show bilateral trade between Egypt and China reached $11.3 billion in the first half of 2026, a 21.5 percent increase from the same period a year earlier. Egyptian exports to China jumped 199.8 percent to $840.8 million during those six months, driven by fuels, mineral oils, vegetables, fruits and cotton, while imports from China rose 14.3 percent to $10.4 billion. The trade growth underscores the depth of economic ties that complement their political alignment on regional stability.

The conversation reflected ongoing coordination between the two countries within multilateral platforms including the United Nations, BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, a pattern evident in multiple diplomatic exchanges throughout 2025 and 2026. China has repeatedly voiced support for Egyptian efforts to mediate conflicts across the Middle East and Africa. Abdelatty’s discussion with Wang Yi aligns with Cairo’s broader outreach to major powers to build consensus around de-escalation and political settlements.

Egypt’s Foreign Ministry has issued similar readouts following prior calls between the two ministers, each reiterating opposition to actions that risk expanding conflicts or violating state sovereignty. The March exchange occurred against a backdrop of interconnected tensions spanning several regional hotspots, though the ministry did not specify individual triggers. Both governments have long advocated resolving disputes through negotiation rather than force, a position reaffirmed in the latest contact.
