Egyptian Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk announced that Egypt and Bahrain are seeking to expand trade, increase investment and strengthen economic cooperation. His comments came during the third meeting of the Bahrain-Egypt Government Committee for Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technological Cooperation held in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital. The session was co-chaired by Kouchouk and Bahrain’s Minister of Finance and National Economy Sheikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa.
Kouchouk pointed to opportunities for expanded cooperation particularly through private sector investment in manufacturing, exports and technology sectors. He called for greater Bahraini investment in Egypt’s productive, financial and technology areas while advocating measures to facilitate trade and improve market access for businesses in both nations. The minister further stated that the countries would address investment obstacles and transform existing bilateral agreements into projects supporting economic growth.
Egypt is also keen to exchange expertise with Bahrain on public financial management, spending efficiency and digital transformation, Kouchouk added according to Egypt Independent. In response, Sheikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa urged closer economic cooperation along with increased private sector participation in bilateral trade and investment. The Bahraini official welcomed plans to organize the Bahrain-Egypt Business Forum on a regular basis to promote company partnerships.
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly separately received the Bahraini delegation participating in the committee and reviewed several mutually agreed projects. Madbouly stressed the importance of devising a clear action plan to implement announced investments and ensure effective tracking of progress toward the joint committee’s objectives, local reports indicated. Sheikh Salman commended the Egyptian team’s preparation and expressed eagerness to activate outcomes quickly while highlighting opportunities for sovereign funds to move from cooperation to actual investment.
Bilateral trade between Egypt and Bahrain reached $301.1 million in 2025, down from $643.8 million in 2024 according to data released by Egypt’s Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics. Egyptian exports to Bahrain stood at $77.4 million in 2025 compared with $78.1 million a year earlier while imports from Bahrain fell to $223.7 million from $565.7 million. Leading imports from Bahrain included metal ores valued at $124 million and aluminium products worth $70.3 million.
Bahraini investments in Egypt rose to $329.7 million in the 2024/2025 fiscal year from $305.9 million in the previous period, official figures show. Egyptian investments in Bahrain increased to $72.6 million from $66.9 million over the same timeframe. The committee session follows an earlier October 2026 meeting in Manama between Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Sheikh Salman that focused on preparations for this gathering and potential collaboration in infrastructure, logistics and energy.
