Qatar News Agency reported that Osasuna have signed 33-year-old left-back Diego Rico from Getafe on a one-year contract. This represents the second incoming transfer for the club in the 2026 summer window after the arrival of Jonathan Dubasin. The report said Rico will compete with Abel Bretones for the left-back position. The announcement came from Madrid without details on a transfer fee.

The player began his career at the Burgos academy before joining Real Zaragoza. According to Transfermarkt, he recorded 109 appearances and five goals for Zaragoza in the Segunda Division between 2013 and 2016. Rico then transferred to Leganes, where he made 58 appearances and scored four goals in La Liga matches. His form at Leganes led to a move to the English Premier League.

Rico joined Bournemouth in 2018 and spent three years in England. Wikipedia data shows he achieved 66 interceptions in one Premier League season, the highest in the league that year. He returned to Spain with Real Sociedad in 2021. Figures from the same source place his Sociedad tally at 57 appearances and one goal, including European matches.

Following his time at Real Sociedad, Rico moved to Getafe, initially on loan in 2023. FotMob statistics record 1753 minutes played and an average rating of 6.78 for him in the 2025-26 La Liga season with four yellow cards. He made a total of 65 appearances for Getafe without scoring a league goal. The one-year contract with Osasuna was finalised as his previous deal expired.

BeSoccer transfer information reveals Osasuna have been busy in the market, with the Dubasin signing costing 4 million euros on July 27. The club also brought in Íñigo Arguibide on a free transfer on July 1. Outgoings included Víctor Muñoz to Liverpool for 40 million euros and Javi Galán on a free transfer. These moves have reshaped the squad ahead of the new season.

Overall, Diego Rico has made 314 league appearances and scored eight goals in his senior career, according to aggregated data from FBref and Wikipedia. The defender has also contributed seven assists in league play across his clubs. His journey has taken him from lower divisions to European competitions. The transfer adds to Osasuna’s defensive options for the 2026-27 La Liga campaign.
