The GCC General Secretariat reported that Albudaiwi held talks with Abdelatty in the Egyptian city of El Alamein on Tuesday. The two officials examined topics of mutual interest and considered additional steps to reinforce relations between the GCC states and Egypt across multiple sectors. They also evaluated progress on the joint action plan covering the years 2024 to 2028. The statement noted that both sides stressed the value of sustained collaboration to advance shared objectives.
According to the GCC General Secretariat, the meeting included a review of outcomes from the first GCC-Egyptian Investment Forum held late last year. Participants outlined arrangements for subsequent editions of the gathering aimed at expanding trade and investment flows. Data from an earlier GCC secretariat briefing placed the value of trade exchanges between Egypt and the GCC states at more than 167 billion dollars from 2016 to 2023. The forum had sought to build on that foundation through new partnerships in key economic areas.
The GCC General Secretariat said the officials exchanged views on recent regional developments during the August 11 discussions. Both reaffirmed their backing for initiatives to promote security and stability through peaceful dispute resolution and diplomatic channels. The statement highlighted their shared commitment to coordinated efforts on matters affecting the broader Middle East.
In the statement issued on Wednesday, Albudaiwi expressed appreciation for Egypt’s consistent supportive positions toward the GCC states. He specifically referenced Egypt’s stance regarding Iranian aggressions that have targeted the bloc in recent years, according to prior GCC documentation on security incidents. The secretary-general underscored the strategic depth of the relationship between the GCC and Egypt.
The Egyptian foreign minister, as conveyed in the GCC General Secretariat statement, reaffirmed Cairo’s solidarity with the Gulf states. Abdelatty told his counterpart that the security of the GCC forms an integral part of Egypt’s own national security framework. The minister emphasised the need for continued joint work to address common challenges in the region.
A separate GCC secretariat overview of ministerial meetings indicated that the 2024-2028 joint action plan was formally adopted earlier this year to deepen political, economic and security coordination. The plan builds on previous strategic dialogues launched more than a decade ago between Egypt and the six-member bloc. Implementation has focused on regular consultations and practical measures in trade, investment and regional stability.
